Partners in Parenting

Indiana’s premier provider for court-mandated educational programs after separation or divorce

Program Overview

Partners in Parenting is an educational program designed to teach effective parenting during the transition of divorce or parental separation. It impresses upon parents the critical role they play in their child’s ability to adjust to the changes.

This virtual seminar emphasizes each parent’s responsibility to provide a nurturing, non-threatening environment for the child. Topics include: Feelings associated with divorce, ways that children of different ages react during transition, parenting approaches that will benefit your children, and suggested ways for talking to children about divorce

This class is facilitated by professionals who are certified in child development. It is an educational program, not a counseling session, and participants are not expected to share personal matters.

Why Do I Need to Attend?

Many Northwest Indiana judges require parents in cases of divorce, visitation, change of custody, and/or other domestic relations actions to complete this program. It is in the best interest of your children that you attend the program early in the proceedings so you can see divorce and family change through their eyes.

Parenting during the transition of divorce and/or parental separation is challenging, and this course discusses how to help you and your children through this difficult time.

What is the registration deadline?

The online registration window closes one week before the class to allow for book mailing. In-person registration stays open one day prior to the scheduled class.

Do I have to take the class together with my child’s parent?

No. Many separating couples prefer not to take the class with their child’s other parent. You will have the ability to share this preference during the registration process.

Why do I have to take this class?

In Indiana, divorcing parents are often required to take a co-parenting class as part of the divorce process. The purpose of this requirement is to promote the best interests of the children involved in the divorce and to help parents develop effective co-parenting skills. The Partners in Parenting class aims to provide parents with information and tools to navigate the challenges of co-parenting after divorce or separation. Divorce can be a significant transition for children, and the class is designed to help parents minimize the negative impact of the divorce on their children’s well-being and development.
